How CBD Helps with Anxiety

Anxiety is something that we all suffer from time to time, a feeling of worry, nervousness or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. Anxiety can take a real toll on one’s mental health and quality of life; often, anxious thoughts and panic attacks will come on without warning and it can be difficult to know how to eradicate anxiety and return to a more balanced mental state.

Some common advice of which we are all aware includes ensuring you are getting enough sleep, eating balanced meals, exercising regularly and taking deep breaths if you feel a rush of anxious thoughts coming on. However, one of the more modern coping mechanisms has emerged in the form of CBD oil.

CBD stands for Cannabidiol; as well as Cannabidiol there are over 100 Cannabinoids in the Cannabis plant, and although studies are ongoing, CBD is one of the early Cannabinoids getting regularly extracted and consumed for human benefit.

CBD is without any THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) – perhaps the most famous Cannabinoid of them all i.e. the one that gets you ‘high’. Therefore CBD does not come with any psychoactive side effects and can be used for a whole host of health reasons.

The most popular of these are to reduce anxiety, relieve pain, aid with sleep and even offer neuro-protective properties.

CBD uses for anxiety have skyrocketed over the past couple of years and there are promising early signs that it could be a legitimate solution to anxiety despite a lack of official scientific evidence.

Can CBD help with nerves?

One in four people are thought to suffer with some form of anxiety in the UK, so legitimate methods of calming nerves are likely to be of huge interest. Social anxiety in particular is something that many struggle with, and with lockdown restrictions starting to lift, there are some who may be apprehensive about returning to social gatherings.

CBD oil is said to change the way in which your brain responds to serotonin, a chemical that is directly linked to mental health. Preclinical trials have shown CBD to possess a wide array of therapeutic properties that implement a calming sensation on our adenosine levels in the brain.

Whilst awake, adenosine levels gradually increase in crucial areas of the brain that are otherwise key for promoting arousal; halfway through the day, our adenosine levels will plateau and start to decrease as we get closer to bedtime, and for that reason – adenosine is also heavily responsible for feeling sleepy.

Thus taking CBD activates our adenosine receptors, which is essentially a quick-fire way of calming nerves when feelings of anxiety wash over.

Using CBD To Relax

For those that suffer with anxiety, using CBD in any of its varying forms may be of interest during your downtime as it is said to promote relaxation and tranquillity.

CBD Oil Drops

The most popular method of CBD ingestion is through CBD oil drops, consuming a few drops of oil under your tongue first thing in the morning or last thing at night allows for maximum benefit. The reason that most opt for the oil is due to the fact that there are hundreds of capillaries under the tongue and thus anything applied to this area is absorbed straight into the bloodstream.

Another option we offer at Pure Sport is our Clarity Oil, with 1500mg of CBD, Ashwagandha, Vitamin D and Ginkgo Biloba. Ashwagandha in particular is said to be helpful in reducing anxiety and stress and fighting depression. So paired with the 1500mg of CBD, we see the Clarity Oil as a great option for anxiety.

CBD Capsules

Alternatively, CBD capsules are also a popular approach. Our CBD capsules are blended in with Ginger and Turmeric, both additional ingredients are powerful anti – inflammatories loaded with antioxidants. This method is extremely stress free, taking just two capsules daily will allow for maximum benefit, and no need to measure anything out, it’s all ready to go with 1500mg of CBD per bottle and 25mg of CBD per capsule.

CBD Topicals

Our CBD topicals are a superb alternative to both of the above; allowing for direct application onto the skin of an inflamed area – our Freeze Roll-on is a soothing concoction mixed in with aloe leaf extract, peppermint and lemongrass – all essential oils to aid with pain relief and ease inflammation.

CBD Balm

Alternatively, our CBD Muscle and Joint Balm is a deeply relaxing method, particularly when applied with our Gua Sha tool. In ancient Gua Sha, a technician would scrape your skin using a spoon or even a coin varying the length and duration of stroke in order to stimulate microcirculation of the soft tissue, which in turn, increases blood flow. CBD Balm is applied to the skin, followed by the tool repeatedly scraping the oily skin in a downward motion. The balm will slowly soak into your skin and target the inflammation and relieve pain as a result.

Addressing Misconceptions about CBD

There are many misconceptions surrounding the topic of CBD such as getting ‘high’ from the product or that it is Marijuana in liquid form. However, one of the main myths is that CBD can in fact be a root cause of anxiety, contradicting entirely one of the main benefits Cannabidiol may have to offer.

As a result of the aforementioned misconceptions, many believe that taking CBD can in fact exacerbate one’s anxiety due to the thinking that CBD contains THC – which is well documented for inducing anxiety when abused incorrectly.

Our CBD oil comes primarily in ‘broad spectrum’ form, this means that there are zero traces of THC, as certified by BSCG (Banned Substances Control Group). Thus, you can remain extra safe in the knowledge that there is no outside chance of further inducing anxiety through traces of THC.

Recommended CBD Dosages

The CBD oil dosage for anxiety varies from person to person. The different variables include how often you take CBD, height and weight, the severity of condition you’re treating and the strength of the product you are taking. For example if you were taking our 1000mg CBD Oil and wanted to try a stronger dose, you could double the recommended dose to get a similar strength to the 2000mg CBD Oil.

We recommend starting with 0.2-0.4 ml on our pipette to start; once in the morning and once in the evening. As time goes on, dosages can be increased depending on the initial reaction to taking CBD for the first time. It is always good to give it a few days before adjusting dosage again.

Many ask ‘how long does CBD take to work?’ – again, this varies from person to person. However, we estimate anywhere between 30 (oil) and 120 (capsules) minutes depending on which method is used.
